Abigail Bakan's research is in the area of anti-oppression politics, with a focus on intersections of gender, race, class, political economy and citizenship. She is currently engaged with several research projects: (i) a SSHRC-funded study of the United Nations as Knowledge Producer, with a focus on world conferences and declarations on women, racialized and Indigenous peoples (with Yasmeen Abu-Laban, University of Alberta); (ii) a study of socialist history and politics in Canada, with a focus on the theory and practice of self-emancipation (with M. Paul Kellogg, Athabasca University); (iii) theoretical essays on identity, difference and solidarity.
