May Public Lecture Series: Dr. Stephanie Brenzel ""Redemptive Marriage and Elective Affinities: Rethinking Franz Rosenzweig's "Gritlianum" and its relation to The Star of Redemption"

Dr. Stephanie Brenzel will give the second lecture in our May Public Lecture Series.

"Redemptive Marriage and Elective Affinities: Rethinking Franz Rosenzweig's "Gritlianum" and its relation to "The Star of Redemption".

**This lecture will be conducted over Zoom Webinar**

Description:This lecture reflects on Franz Rosenzweig’s use of marital imagery in The Star of Redemption by drawing from his little known essay “On Unity and Eternity: A Conversation between Body and Soul” or what he lovingly referred to as the Gritlianum in honor of his best friend’s wife, Margrit “Gritli” Rosenstock. Revealing the intimate connection between his life and thought in a powerful way, this essay not only contains the seeds of Rosenzweig’s critique of romantic nature philosophies in the Star but it also reveals his personal motives for describing marriage as the closest analogy to Redemption.
