Film Screening: Shoah, The Forgotten Souls of History / Shoah, les oubliés de l'histoire

Canadian Premiere

Featuring Prof. Anna Shternshis, Al and Malka Green Associate Professor of Yiddish Studies

Filmmaker Véronique Lagoarde-Ségot examines rarely seen footage that brings to light a significant piece of history—how the Soviet chronicling of Nazi atrocities erased the Jewish identity of the victims. Soviet directors and cameramen accompanied the soldiers to the front, capturing the horrors committed by Nazis, but when this Soviet footage is compared with similar German footage, a noticeable difference emerges—according to the Soviets, the victims of mass murder are not Jews.
