Ada Rapoport-Albert, "The Integrity of the Female Body in Rabbinic Tradition"

Gerstein Lecture Series

The lecture considers a range of rabbinic sources dealing with ritual law and custom, which appear to invest the female body with a certain integrity that should not be violated. It relates this to the common philosophical and kabbalistic classification of the female as 'body'  (corresponding to the male  as 'spirit' or  'soul'), and considers the implications of this view for the historical record of the Jewish mystical tradition.

This event is free and open to the public. No registration required. Limited seating.
